Driver Killed as Tesla Crashes into Fremont Apartment, Causes Fire

FREMONT, CA (October 15, 2024) — A Tesla driver died after crashing into a Fremont apartment complex on Monday evening, igniting a structure fire, according to local fire officials and police. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. near Old Warm Springs Boulevard between South Grimmer Boulevard and Tavis Place, prompting police to advise residents to avoid the area.
The Tesla collided with the vacant first floor of the building, causing a fire that required evacuation of the remaining floors while crews worked to extinguish the blaze. The driver, identified as 46-year-old Kamleshkumar J. Patel of Fremont, was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by a Fremont fire official and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.
A witness driving nearby reported that the Tesla was moving at high speeds and narrowly missed hitting her vehicle before the crash. Fortunately, no residents of the apartment were injured.
The cause of the Tesla crash in Fremont is still under investigation.
