Driver Killed in Fiery Crash After SUV Hits Tree in Lakeland Village

Lakeland Village, CA (August 7, 2024) — A motorist was killed Monday afternoon when their SUV crashed into a tree and caught fire in Lakeland Village. The incident occurred at approximately 3:23 p.m. in the 16200 block of Grand Avenue, near the entrance to the Ortega (74) Highway, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The driver, whose identity and gender have not been released, apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree in the front yard of a residence. The impact caused the SUV to catch fire.
Residents of the property attempted to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher but were unsuccessful. Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department crews arrived within 15 minutes and found the fire spreading towards the home. Firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the blaze before it reached the house, with the flames fully knocked down by 3:50 p.m.
The driver was found deceased in the burned-out vehicle. CHP officers are currently investigating the cause of the crash in Lakeland Village.
