Driver Killed in Head-On Crash with a Big Rig on Highway 12

San Joaquin County, CA (August 8, 2024) — A pickup truck driver died Thursday after colliding head-on with a big rig on Highway 12 near Guard Road in San Joaquin County, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash happened shortly after noon when the driver of a westbound Ford pickup truck veered into the eastbound lane for unknown reasons and struck the oncoming big rig. The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene.
In response to the crash with a big rig on Highway 12, CHP directed all westbound traffic to turn around at Guard Road, while the eastbound shoulder of the highway remained open. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, and it is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were factors.
