DUI Crash in Orange Claims Mother, Injures Daughter and Two Others
ORANGE COUNTY, CA (October 1, 2024) — A DUI crash in Orange County resulted in the death of a mother and left her daughter critically injured along with two others this past Sunday. The incident took place at the intersection of Tustin Street and Collins Avenue shortly after 8 p.m.
Police report that a Toyota RAV4, carrying the mother as a passenger and her daughter directly behind her, was traveling west on Collins Avenue. As they crossed Tustin Street on a green light, a Chevy Equinox driven by 18-year-old Roberto Noe Monfil Xitlama of Orange, who was under the influence and without a license, collided with them after running a red light. Tests later showed Xitlama’s blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.
The mother was pronounced dead at the scene. Her daughter, initially in critical condition, was later upgraded to serious. A 13-year-old friend of the daughter and the mother’s boyfriend, who was driving the Toyota, were both hospitalized in serious condition.
Following the crash, police arrested Xitlama on charges including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and he is currently detained at the Orange County Jail as the investigation continues.
