DUI Suspected in Fatal US-101 Crash in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (September 3, 2024) — A tragic crash on US-101 south of San Antonio Street in San Jose resulted in the death of a 19-year-old man early Sunday morning.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred just after 3:31 a.m. when the driver of a Mercedes, also 19, lost control while traveling southbound, causing the vehicle to veer off into the right-hand shoulder.
The deceased, a passenger in the backseat who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver has been arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and was identified by CHP only as “Z. Stacy.”
The fatal crash in San Jose led to the closure of one lane on the freeway, which remained shut from 3:50 a.m. until 8:11 a.m.
