Family of Motorcyclist Killed by Suspected DUI Driver Near Orinda Speaks Out

SANTA ANA, CA (August 25, 2024) — The family of 30-year-old Marcos Amaral, a motorcyclist killed by a suspected DUI driver earlier this month, is mourning his loss and calling for accountability. Amaral, a devoted father and hardworking provider, was struck and killed on Highway 24 near Orinda, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Amaral had just finished his shift as a bartender at Benihana in Concord and was riding his motorcycle home to San Francisco when a black BMW SUV collided with him. CHP confirmed that the driver of the SUV was under the influence and was arrested at the scene. Amaral died instantly, while the driver escaped injury.
The family described Amaral as a dedicated father to his 4-year-old son and a man striving to improve his life. In addition to bartending, he worked as a trainer at a rehab center with aspirations of becoming a physical therapist.
The family is urging drivers to consider the consequences of impaired driving and is advocating for accountability in this case. CHP continues to investigate the crash and is asking witnesses to come forward. A memorial service is being organized, and an online fundraiser has been launched to assist with expenses.
