Fatal Collision in Long Beach Results in One Death and Multiple Injuries

LONG BEACH, CA (August 17, 2024) — A tragic accident early Friday morning in Long Beach led to the death of a woman and left several others injured. The Long Beach Police Department reported that the collision occurred at 12:15 a.m. at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Atlantic Avenue.
The crash involved a 24-year-old woman driving a 2017 Mazda 6 westbound on PCH and a 63-year-old man in a 2007 Toyota Scion traveling northbound on Atlantic Avenue. The exact cause of the collision and who had the right of way is still under investigation.
One passenger in the Scion, 53-year-old Maria Concepcion Martinez from Long Beach, was trapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining passengers and the Scion’s driver were taken to a local hospital with injuries, while the Mazda driver, who was also hospitalized, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities are investigating whether speeding or driving under the influence contributed to the collision in Long Beach. No arrests have been reported.
