Fatal Crash in Santa Ana Involves Drunk Driver with Prior DUI Arrests
SANTA ANA, CA (April 22, 2024) — A tragic incident occurred early Sunday morning in Santa Ana, resulting in the death of a woman due to a crash involving a drunk driver. Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) received reports around 2:08 a.m. of a single-vehicle accident in the 800 block of South Main Street.
Upon arrival, officers and the Orange County Fire Authority found a truck that had collided with a palm tree before coming to a stop against a pole. The truck was traveling southbound on Main Street when the driver lost control, leading to the fatal crash.
The vehicle had three occupants: two men, including the driver, and a woman sitting in the front passenger seat. Emergency crews had to extricate the driver and the woman from the wreckage. All three were transported to a nearby hospital, where the woman later died from her injuries. The two men are reported to be in stable condition.
Further investigation into the Santa Ana drunk driving accident revealed that the driver, who had previous DUI arrests, was under the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs at the time of the accident. He has been arrested and faces charges of DUI causing death and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
