Fatal Crash Involving Construction Vehicle on Highway 101 in Novato [Novato, CA]

NOVATO, CA (March 25, 2024) — A tragic incident occurred on Highway 101 in Novato on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of a construction vehicle driver, as confirmed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). 

 

The accident took place around 7:40 a.m. near the Nave Drive overcrossing, where the driver lost control, veered off the road, and collided with a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire, complicating rescue efforts.

 

According to CHP Officer Jonathan Langley, a witness at the scene reported that the driver was trapped inside the burning vehicle and could not escape. Emergency responders arrived quickly but, despite their efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Following the crash, three lanes of Highway 101 were temporarily closed to allow for emergency operations and an initial investigation. Traffic flow was restored by 11:10 a.m. as all lanes reopened.

The investigation into the cause of the Novato vehicle crash is ongoing, with authorities withholding the driver’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
