Fatal Pedestrian Collision Leads to PCH Closure in Malibu [Malibu, CA]

MALIBU, CA (March 30, 2024) — A tragic incident early Friday morning resulted in the death of a pedestrian after a collision with a big rig truck on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) in Malibu. The accident prompted an extensive investigation by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, leading to the closure of a key portion of the highway for nearly five hours.

The pedestrian accident in Malibu occurred around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Cross Creek Road and PCH, where the pedestrian was struck while in the roadway. The driver of the truck remained at the scene, cooperating fully with law enforcement officials in their investigation.

Traffic was significantly impacted as all lanes of PCH were shut down in both directions until the area was reopened around 10:30 a.m. The closure facilitated a thorough examination of the accident scene by investigators.

This fatal accident underscores ongoing safety concerns on PCH, a focus for the City of Malibu. In response to these concerns, the city secured a long-term contract in January to enhance California Highway Patrol presence in the area. The CHP’s Malibu Task Force, in its recent enforcement efforts from March 18 to 24, issued 109 citations predominantly for speeding violations, and one driver was arrested for DUI.
