Five-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 Causes Chaos and Wasp Attack
THOUSAND OAKS, CA (July 11, 2024) — A five-vehicle collision on southbound Highway 101 near Lakeview Canyon Road in Thousand Oaks sent three cars careening off the road, leading to a disrupted wasp nest and multiple stings on Tuesday.
According to Officer Ryan Ayers of the California Highway Patrol’s Moorpark office, the chain-reaction crash occurred around 12:10 p.m. and involved significant vehicle damage, although no serious injuries were reported.
The impact caused one vehicle to run off the road north of Lakeview, while two others veered off south of the road—one striking a tree and another overturning. This unusual turn of events also disturbed a wasp nest, unleashing swarms of wasps on the scene. Firefighters were called to spray foam to control the wasps as those present dealt with stings.
Two women from separate vehicles sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center. The Thousand Oaks crash led to the closure of the highway’s right lane, causing traffic delays as emergency crews worked to clear the scene and tow trucks retrieved the vehicles.
Authorities continued to investigate the specifics of the crash into the evening.
