Four Injured in Three-Vehicle Collision in San Marcos
SAN MARCOS, CA (April 22, 2024) — A serious head-on collision involving three vehicles occurred on Sunday night in San Marcos, sending multiple people to the hospital. The incident took place around 8 p.m. near the intersection of South Santa Fe Avenue and North Rancho Santa Fe Road.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, a blue Honda SUV was reported driving the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of South Santa Fe Road. It collided head-on with a red Honda SUV and a white Toyota car.
Inside the red Honda were a 24-year-old father, a 22-year-old mother, and their infant. Both parents suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Palomar Medical Center. The infant, who was unharmed, was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital as a precaution.
The driver of the white Toyota, a 46-year-old, was evaluated at the scene by paramedics and subsequently released. The wrong-way driver, a 29-year-old man, sustained major injuries and was admitted to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. Deputies have not yet had a chance to interview him.
Investigations are ongoing to determine if alcohol played a role in the San Marcos vehicle crash. As of now, no arrests have been made. Following the collision, a section of South Santa Fe Avenue was closed to traffic, and local authorities advised the public to avoid the area.
