Half Moon Bay Mayor’s Son Dies in Hwy 1 Motorcycle Crash

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA (May 27, 2024) — The victim of Saturday’s fatal motorcycle crash on Highway 1 in Half Moon Bay has been identified as Joaquin Dominik Jimenez Alvarado, the son of Half Moon Bay Mayor Joaquin Jimenez, according to a press release from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Alvarado, 28, was a resident of Half Moon Bay and worked as a union stationary engineer in San Francisco. He was deeply involved in the Half Moon Bay community, city officials stated.
The Joaquin Alvarado accident, which involved a pickup truck and a motorcycle, occurred around 5:45 p.m. near Highway 1 and Mirada Road, causing the highway to be closed in both directions for several hours. First responders arrived at the scene, but Alvarado died from his injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured and cooperated with the investigation.Highway 1 reopened around 11:30 p.m. that night.
“Our hearts and thoughts are with Mayor Jimenez and his entire family during this time of unimaginable loss,” said San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus.
