Hesperia Man Dies in Adelanto Highway Crash

ADELANTO, CA (September 17, 2024) — A 54-year-old man from Hesperia was killed following a collision between his vehicle and a truck on US Highway 395 in Adelanto late Sunday night, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials.
The incident, which happened at around 10:50 pm on September 15, involved the man’s 2003 Mini Cooper S drifting into the northbound lane near Desert Flower Road and colliding with a 2023 GMC Sierra. Despite the GMC driver’s attempts to evade the Mini Cooper by steering towards the east shoulder, a collision ensued, causing significant damage to both vehicles and the Mini Cooper’s driver being partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The 23-year-old GMC driver from Meridian, ID, sustained minor injuries and received treatment at St. Mary’s Global Medical Center.
CHP’s Victorville Area Office, led by Officer B. Diaz, is investigating the crash, with initial suspicions that alcohol or drugs may have played a role. Authorities urge anyone with information about the Adelanto highway crash to contact the Victorville CHP office at (760) 241-1186.
