High-Speed Attempt to Pass Ends in Fatal French Camp Collision [San Joaquin, CA]
FRENCH CAMP, CA (June 17, 2024) — A high-speed attempt to pass another vehicle led to a fatal crash near French Camp on Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The French Camp collision occurred around 12 p.m. in the area of Bowman and Manthey roads. A 31-year-old Stockton man driving a Nissan Ultima was speeding behind a black Mazda 3. In an attempt to pass the Mazda, the Nissan driver collided with oncoming traffic. The impact caused the car to lose control, overturn multiple times, and eventually land on its tires.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are still investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
