Huntington Beach Accident Claims Life of Woman Trying to Feed Ducks [Huntington Beach, CA]

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (March 19, 2024) — A heartbreaking incident happened in Huntington Beach on Monday morning, resulting in the death of a woman who was struck by a car while possibly attempting to feed ducks, as per the Huntington Beach Police Department.

The fatal accident in Huntington Beach occurred around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Heil Avenue and Bradbury Lane. Reports indicate that a white 2014 Mazda 6 collided with a pedestrian, identified as a 57-year-old woman named Norma Solon.

Solon, found in the roadway, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The driver of the Mazda, a 61-year-old man from Huntington Beach, cooperated with authorities and remained at the site of the incident.

According to preliminary investigations, the Mazda was traveling westbound on Heil Avenue when the collision occurred. Solon was in the roadway, not within a crosswalk, seemingly attending to ducks.

Lieutenant Thoby Archer of HBPD expressed, “We do know that her car … was in the area, and it looks like, given the fact that there were some ducks involved, is that she was likely trying to cross the street, probably trying to get a duck from one side to the other.”

Officers discovered Solon’s black cart with bread and other food inside, suggesting her intention to feed the ducks. Authorities are also probing the involvement of a second vehicle, described as a white SUV, and are urging witnesses to come forward with any relevant information.
