Infant and Driver Die in Five-Vehicle Crash in Stanislaus County

STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA (September 23, 2024) — An 11-month-old girl and a 26-year-old man from Ceres have died following a five-car collision in Stanislaus County over the weekend, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on Saturday on Highway 132 near South River Road, east of Vernalis. The sedan sideswiped one vehicle, sparking a chain-reaction crash that ultimately involved five vehicles.
The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. The infant girl, a passenger in another vehicle, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center. On Monday, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office confirmed that she had succumbed to her injuries.
Four additional individuals suffered minor injuries. The California Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the cause of the vehicle crash in Stanislaus County.
