Inmate Dies in Sacramento County Jail Detox Cell
SACRAMENTO, CA (May 6, 2024) — An inmate at the Sacramento County Main Jail was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday. The incident occurred during a routine cell check at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Sunday in the 6-East 100 Pod, a unit designated for individuals detoxing from drugs.
Deputies discovered the inmate alone in his cell and immediately began first aid efforts. Despite their quick response and subsequent medical intervention, the inmate was pronounced dead at the facility. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
