Lawsuit Alleges Deputy Gang Left Man to Die in Lancaster Supermarket Pillar [Lancaster, CA]
LANCASTER, CA (May 30, 2024) — A lawsuit claims that a deputy gang within the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department left Raymundo Rivera, 35, to die inside a pillar at a Lancaster supermarket six years ago during a pursuit.
Former Deputy Aaron Tanner, accused of domestic abuse by his ex-girlfriend, allegedly boasted about Rivera’s fate and his leadership in the “Rattlesnakes” gang within the department.
Tanner reportedly told his ex that the gang knew Rivera was trapped but chose to leave him to die and falsified reports about losing track of him.
Tanner’s ex-girlfriend, identified as Jane Doe, also alleged threats from Tanner and his gang to ensure her silence about his abuse. The Raymundo Rivera death lawsuit claims the Rattlesnakes control the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station, intimidate other deputies, make false arrests, and frame people.
This incident is part of broader allegations about deputy gangs within the LASD, which former Sheriff Alex Villanueva has reportedly denied. This is despite claims from other department employees about pressure to join these gangs and the negative repercussions for those who refused.
