Lyft Driver Arrested for Alleged Assault on Passenger in Santa Monica
SANTA MONICA, CA (April 11, 2024) — Santa Monica Police have arrested Fernando Macias Morales, 34, from Los Angeles, on charges of sexually assaulting a female passenger.
The incident allegedly occurred during a Lyft ride on September 7, 2023, from a West Hollywood restaurant to the victim’s home in Santa Monica.
According to Lt. Erika Aklufi of the Santa Monica Police Department, the victim, a resident of Santa Monica, reported that she fell asleep during the ride and awoke to Morales inappropriately touching her. Morales allegedly offered to walk her to her door upon arriving at her home, an offer which she refused.
Detectives arrested Morales on April 5 in the San Fernando Valley. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has since charged him with kidnapping to commit a sexual act, sexual penetration of an intoxicated or sedated person, and oral copulation of an intoxicated or sedated person.
