Man Fatally Struck by Suspected DUI Driver in Colina Del Sol
EL CAJON, CA (May 4, 2024) — A tragic incident occurred in the Colina Del Sol neighborhood on Thursday night when a suspected drunk driver hit and killed a 44-year-old man. The San Diego Police Department reported that the accident took place around 9:10 p.m. along the 4900 block of El Cajon Boulevard.
The pedestrian was attempting to cross the street when he suddenly changed direction, running back into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The 20-year-old driver, who was traveling eastbound in the left lane, struck the pedestrian, causing him severe head trauma. The victim was quickly transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have yet to release his identity.
Following the Colina del Sol accident, the young driver was evaluated by police and arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
