Man Killed in Oakland Dog Attack

OAKLAND, CA (September 6, 2024) — A man died Sunday afternoon after being attacked by three dogs in Oakland, with the victim’s family now speaking out about the tragedy. The incident occurred before noon on the 1600 block of 36th Avenue, according to the Oakland Police Department.

The victim, known as a street preacher, had fallen on hard times, his brother Alex Holguin said. “He went through some difficult times. He served a little time in prison, [and is] known as the street preacher,” Holguin shared.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the man suffering from severe dog bites. Despite paramedics’ efforts to provide first aid, the victim was pronounced dead. The dogs involved, described as a mix of Cane Corso and Neapolitan Mastiff, have since been euthanized.

Ali Alhidhani, a local store owner, said he had seen the dogs before and found them intimidating. “I hope people with big dogs learn from this,” he said.

Police confirmed that one person was arrested in connection with the Oakland dog attack. Despite the tragedy, the victim’s family expressed forgiveness for the dog owner. “If he’s listening, you are forgiven,” Holguin said.
