Mom Sues San Diego Gas & Electric After Daughter’s Electrocution Death
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 28, 2024) — A San Diego mother is suing San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), the city and county of San Diego, and Caltrans after her daughter was killed in an electrical accident last summer involving a suspected DUI driver.
V’Ctorea Sanders was in the back seat when her friend crashed into electrical boxes on Euclid Avenue. After the crash, Sanders tried to push the car off the boxes, which sent hundreds of thousands of volts of electricity through her body, setting her on fire.
Hours after the crash, Sanders’ mother, Angela Turner, received a card instructing her to call the county. Turner, who had no details about the incident, began searching online and found a news article about someone killed by electrocution, leading her to the crash site where SDG&E crews were still working.
Turner, who worked for SDG&E for 20 years, is suing the agencies for negligence and placing the electrical boxes in dangerous locations. The fire left Sanders’ body unrecognizable, and Turner believes her daughter’s death could have been prevented.
SDG&E expressed condolences but declined to comment on the litigation. The county and Caltrans also declined to comment on the San Diego Gas Electric lawsuit.
