Monterey Park SUV Crash Kills Three

MONTEREY PARK, CA (June 29, 2024) — Three people died and two were hospitalized after a single-vehicle accident in Monterey Park early Friday. 

 

The incident happened near Graves and Garfield avenues where an SUV, reportedly speeding, failed to navigate a hill’s descent, went airborne, and collided with a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to hit two parked cars and flip onto its side.

 

Rescue teams arriving at the scene had to extract two victims from the wreckage; both were pronounced dead shortly after. The survivors, a woman and her 7-year-old daughter, are currently receiving medical care. A third fatality was discovered on a nearby rooftop, initially overlooked by first responders.

 

Local resident Felix Lam described the horrifying noise that awoke him, remarking on the surrealness of the situation just a day after celebrating his birthday. Authorities confirmed the SUV’s driver was under the influence at the time of the Monterey Park SUV crash and is now facing DUI charges. The deceased were identified as the woman’s brother, a cousin, and a family friend.
