Motorcyclist Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash in Torrey Pines

SAN DIEGO, CA (September 20, 2024) — A 25-year-old motorcyclist is recovering after being injured in a crash involving two other vehicles in Torrey Pines on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on the 3100 block of La Jolla Village Drive near Gilman Drive.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the motorcyclist was riding a 2023 Yamaha MT-09 eastbound in the left lane when a 39-year-old man driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee exited at Gilman Drive and moved into the eastbound right lane. The impact caused the rider to rear-end a Toyota Highlander driven by a 77-year-old man before coming to a stop. The motorcyclist suffered an open fracture to his right knee and femur and was transported to a hospital. His injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
The drivers of the Jeep and the Toyota were uninjured. Authorities stated that alcohol or drugs are not considered factors in the Torrey Pines motorcycle crash. Traffic Division officers are investigating the incident.
