Motorcyclist Killed in Collision with Pickup Truck in Avila Beach SLO
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (August 8, 2024) — A motorcyclist died Tuesday evening following a collision with a pickup truck in Avila Beach, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
At around 6 p.m., a 58-year-old Arroyo Grande resident was riding a 1992 Harley Davidson eastbound on Avila Beach Drive. As he approached the intersection at First Street, where the traffic signal was red, a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 29-year-old Santa Maria resident was turning left onto Avila Beach Drive.
The CHP reported that the motorcyclist, traveling at an unknown speed, ran the red light and collided with the pickup truck. The impact ejected the rider from his seat. He was transported by ambulance to Adventist Health Sierra Vista hospital in San Luis Obispo, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries. The CHP stated that the truck vs. motorcycle crash in Avila Beach remains under investigation, and it is not yet clear whether impairment was a factor.
