Motorcyclist Survives Rock-Throwing Attack on 110 Freeway

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 1, 2024) — A motorcyclist is fortunate to be alive after a rock-throwing incident on the 110 Freeway near downtown Los Angeles early Thursday morning.
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes, just south of the 10 Freeway. Video footage shows a man, believed to be homeless, throwing rocks onto the freeway from the shoulder near 23rd Street. One of the rocks hit a motorcyclist, causing him to lose control, crash, and slide across the roadway.
The video captures the motorcycle skidding with sparks flying, while the motorcyclist miraculously gets up and walks away unscathed. Two other cars in the vicinity also suffered flat tires from the rocks. One of these drivers had just arrived from LAX in a rental car.
Scott Lane of OnScene.TV, who filmed the incident, reported seeing the rock-thrower walking eastbound on 23rd Street near Figueroa. Despite witnessing the event, neither Lane nor the other drivers, including the motorcyclist, contacted 911. Lane provided his footage to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Officer Roberto Gomez of the CHP noted that the Los Angeles rock-throwing attack was not an isolated event and emphasized the need for victims to report such incidents. The motorcyclist has not yet come forward, but authorities are urging him to contact them to aid in the investigation.
