Motorist Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 in Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, CA (May 31, 2024) — A motorist was fatally struck by two vehicles after their SUV became disabled on U.S. Highway 101 in Palo Alto early Friday morning, the California Highway Patrol reported.
At approximately 2:52 a.m., the driver of a red Hyundai SUV called authorities to report hitting an object on northbound Highway 101 just north of the San Antonio Road on-ramp, according to Officer Sophie Lu of the CHP’s Redwood City office. The collision left the SUV damaged and stranded on the highway.
Moments after the initial incident, two other vehicles collided with the disabled SUV. The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the other two vehicles involved in the crash were not injured.
The Palo Alto multi-vehicle crash forced the closure of northbound lanes near the San Antonio Road on-ramp for several hours while authorities investigated and cleared the scene. Further details about the cause of the crash have not been released.
