
LASSEN COUNTY, CA – A woman and a dog were killed, and multiple others injured, in a multi-car crash on the 405 Freeway near Westwood on Friday evening, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The incident happened at approximately 6:45 p.m. on the northbound lanes near Wilshire Boulevard.
Firefighters responding to the scene found a person trapped inside a vehicle, requiring a rescue.
The victim was identified as 72-year-old Margaret Jackson, who, along with a dog, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three others were injured, including two people in critical condition and a 60-year-old woman in fair condition.
The crash prompted the issuance of a SigAlert, closing three lanes of the northbound 405 Freeway until just after 10:30 p.m. CHP officers confirmed that one dog had run onto the freeway after the crash but was later safely retrieved by authorities. The cause of the multi-car crash on 405 Freeway remains under investigation.
