IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA – A man and a woman were hospitalized following a crash early Wednesday morning at the intersection of Heber and Anderholt roads, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The collision happened around 6:00 a.m. when a 52-year-old woman driving a Toyota Tundra failed to stop at a posted sign and moved into the path of an eastbound Ford Expedition. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles.
Emergency responders arrived to find the Toyota driver with major injuries. She was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center, while the 47-year-old Ford driver was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
CHP officials stated that airbags deployed in both vehicles, and the Ford driver was wearing a seatbelt. However, the Toyota driver was unrestrained at the time of the car crash at Heber and Anderholt.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
