MERCED, CA – A 49-year-old motorcyclist from Atwater died early Sunday after crashing into a center median on Highway 99, ejecting both himself and his passenger, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the crash happened just after midnight near Mission Avenue. For reasons still under investigation, the rider lost control, colliding with the divider.
Emergency crews arrived to find the motorcyclist deceased at the scene, while the passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
CHP confirmed both individuals were wearing helmets. Investigators are working to determine if speed, alcohol, or other factors contributed to the motorcycle crash on Highway 99. Anyone with information is urged to contact CHP Officer A. Enriquez at (209) 356-6600.
