
SACRAMENTO, CA – A vehicle plunged off an overpass onto Interstate 5 in the Natomas area on Monday afternoon, leaving the driver in critical condition, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
The California Highway Patrol was dispatched around 12:52 p.m. to the scene near the northbound offramp for West El Camino Avenue. Dashcam footage captured by a witness, Kyman Jeung, shows the moment the vehicle fell onto the freeway, narrowly missing other cars.
Authorities confirmed that the driver who veered off the overpass was the only person injured and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Debris from the crash was scattered across the roadway and in nearby trees.
The overpass at West El Camino Avenue was closed for several hours for cleanup and investigation, reopening around 3:15 p.m. Officials have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. The investigation into the Sacramento overpass crash is ongoing.
