
A 66-year-old bicyclist was killed Saturday morning after being struck by a car on Pacific Coast Highway near Sycamore Canyon Road in Ventura County, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Officers responded around 11:15 a.m. and found the man in the roadway with severe injuries. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A gold 2007 Mazda 3 had collided with his specialized bicycle.
Investigators determined the Mazda was traveling northbound at about 55 mph when the bicyclist, who had been riding on the right shoulder, suddenly veered into the lane. The driver was unable to avoid the crash.
The Mazda’s driver and passenger were uninjured. CHP continues to investigate the Pacific Coast Highway bike accident.
