A 31-year-old man was killed Monday night after being struck by a vehicle while walking along Winchester Road (SR-79) near Skyview Road in French Valley.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash happened around 9:20 p.m. when the pedestrian was in the northbound No. 1 lane. Investigators say the driver of a 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 was unable to see him before impact. The driver immediately pulled over and called 911.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. The driver sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors, and no arrests have been made. The identity of the pedestrian fatally struck on Winchester Road was not released. The CHP is continuing its investigation.
