Authorities in Orange County are investigating an incident in Stanton after a driver struck multiple patrol vehicles overnight.
Deputies had been assisting firefighters with a vehicle fire at a Shell station on Beach Boulevard and Orangewood Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. Monday when a second vehicle plowed into the barricade set up for street closures due to the fire.
The impact caused significant damage to several sheriff’s vehicles and left the driver trapped, necessitating extrication. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries; no deputies or firefighters were injured in the crash.
The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation to determine why the driver hit the barricade, and further details regarding the driver’s condition remain unknown.
