LANCASTER, PA – A small plane crashed into the parking lot of a retirement community in Lancaster County on Sunday afternoon, injuring all five people on board and setting several vehicles on fire.
The Beechcraft aircraft went down near Lancaster Airport at Brethren Village in Manheim Township. While the crash caused significant damage to parked cars, no one on the ground was hurt, and nearby buildings remained intact.
Emergency responders transported the five occupants to Lancaster General Hospital, with three later transferred to Lehigh Valley Burn Center.
The pilot had reported an issue with an open door and was attempting to return to the airport before the crash. Air traffic control recordings captured last-minute instructions for the pilot to pull up.The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have launched an investigation into the Lancaster County plane crash. Route 501, which was temporarily closed, has since reopened.
