A 47-year-old pedestrian died late Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle on Edison Highway in Bakersfield.
The incident occurred around 10:53 p.m. near the intersection of Edison Highway and Mount Vernon Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
CHP said a 46-year-old man was driving a 2004 Toyota Scion westbound on Edison Highway when the pedestrian attempted to cross northbound, outside of a marked crosswalk. The driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver remained at the location and cooperated fully with the investigation. Authorities indicated drugs or alcohol were not factors for the driver; however, it remains unclear if impairment contributed to the pedestrian’s actions. The crash is still under investigation.
