
A collision early Monday on northbound Highway 101 near the Carmen Drive exit in Camarillo resulted in two fatalities and extended lane closures. The incident involved a 2015 Ford Mustang and a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta at 2:55 a.m.
A 19-year-old Santa Barbara man driving the Mustang lost control and struck the Jetta, which was stopped in the center median just south of Carmen Drive. Both occupants of the Jetta died at the scene, while the Mustang driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center.
Traffic on northbound Highway 101 was completely blocked near the Carmen Drive exit, forcing a detour initially at Lewis Road and later at Carmen Drive. Caltrans reported that the lanes reopened around 9 a.m.
The CHP Ventura office is investigating the fatal crash in Camarillo, which shows no signs of drug or alcohol involvement. The identities of the deceased remain pending notification of next of kin.
