A 28-year-old man, identified as Abraham Bustos Guzman, lost his life early Sunday morning after he stopped to help following a car crash on Highway 99 near Atwater.
Witnesses report that while returning home from work, Bustos Guzman observed an SUV that had hit a guardrail. He pulled over to assist the driver, 22-year-old Sincere Collins, and the vehicle’s passengers when another driver, 23-year-old Yessica Partida, collided with the SUV.
The impact struck Bustos Guzman, who later died at the scene. Both Partida and Collins are suspected of driving under the influence.
Family members described Bustos Guzman as a selfless individual, deeply involved in his community and a beacon of support for others. He was reportedly only months away from realizing his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer.
Authorities continue their investigation, and Partida remains in custody on felony DUI charges while Collins faces pending charges. Bustos Guzman’s family has established a GoFundMe page to help cope with their profound loss.
