A fatal collision in southwest Bakersfield claimed the lives of a married couple early Sunday morning after they took an Uber home following an evening out.
The incident involved a white Hyundai driven by 21-year-old Anabell Correa, who collided with the Uber driver’s car. Investigators report that the impact killed 30-year-old Max Mooney and critically injured his wife, Desiree Mooney, who was later pronounced dead at Kern Medical. A separate woman passenger and the Uber driver sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.
Police suspect that speed and alcohol were contributing factors. Correa, who has a prior arrest for public intoxication from August 2023, has been taken into custody and faces charges including two counts of homicide and related offenses.
The suspect is currently recovering from injuries at Kern Medical and will be booked into Lerdo jail. In the wake of the DUI crash in Southwest Bakersfield, family members and friends expressed deep sorrow, with one close friend describing Desiree as “literally like a sister” and lamenting the profound loss.
