A fatal crash in Santa Rosa on Monday night resulted in the death of a Toyota Camry driver and the arrest of a suspect allegedly under the influence of drugs.
The incident happened when a speeding gray Nissan Maxima, driven by 21-year-old Aaron Rodriguez Hernandez, was observed by an officer near Seventh Street at 10:06 p.m.
While the officer pursued the vehicle on E Street near Montgomery Drive, the Nissan veered into the intersection of Montgomery Drive and Farmers Lane, colliding with a silver Toyota Camry traveling north on Farmers Lane.
The Camry’s sole occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hernandez, who sustained moderate injuries, was taken to a local hospital before being arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter, DUI drugs with injury, driving without a license, and violation of probation.
The Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office and the California Highway Patrol are conducting an independent investigation into the Santa Rosa DUI crash.
