A fatal single-car crash in Madera County claimed the life of 29-year-old Graciela Rodriguez Urena on Monday.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred just before 12:30 p.m. near Avenue 17 and Road 28 1/2. Urena was driving her 2008 vehicle with her baby boy in the backseat when, for reasons still under investigation, she left the roadway and struck a barbed wire fence and wood post.
According to CHP, the impact was severe enough that a wood post pierced the windshield, fatally injuring Urena. Her infant was immediately taken to Valley Children’s Hospital for evaluation.
The investigation into the Madera County crash is ongoing as officials work to determine the factors that led to Urena’s loss of control.
