
A violent traffic collision on State Route 18 in Phelan late Saturday night left three people injured, including one in critical condition.
The incident reportedly happened just before 11:00 p.m. at the intersection of Johnson Road when a 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV collided with a 2002 GMC Yukon.
San Bernardino County Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the GMC Yukon overturned on its side, while the Chevrolet Bolt remained upright but suffered extensive damage.
According to California Highway Patrol logs, one male occupant of the overturned Yukon sustained a significant head injury with heavy bleeding. Emergency responders later determined that two of the patients exhibited delayed injuries, while one remained in critical condition.
A medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene, prompting authorities to temporarily close the highway in both directions to ensure safe landing. Investigators continue to assess the factors contributing to the crash in Phelan.
