A hit-and-run crash early Thursday morning in Koreatown claimed the life of a 22-year-old skateboarder near 6th and Catalina streets.
The victim was reportedly riding his skateboard at around 6 a.m. when a gray four-door sedan traveling westbound on Catalina struck him. Surveillance footage from a nearby business captured the collision, though its grainy quality did not reveal additional details about the vehicle or driver.
Authorities closed 6th Street between Berendo and Kenmore for over two hours as investigators gathered evidence, including vehicle debris and broken pieces of the skateboard. A white canopy was seen covering the victim’s remains, and one of his shoes was knocked loose during the impact.
Family members, who gathered at the scene and spoke only briefly, expressed profound grief and anger, urging the hit-and-run suspect to come forward. The coroner has not yet released the young man’s identity.
