A worker was injured Wednesday night at the Martinez Refining Company when a portable air compressor caught fire while being refueled by a contract worker, the refinery confirmed.
The incident reportedly happened at approximately 7:50 p.m. The fire was quickly extinguished and, according to the company, was unrelated to its process units.
Emergency responders transported the injured worker offsite for medical evaluation and treatment. The refinery issued a Community Warning System Level 1 alert and notified the appropriate agencies.
Contra Costa Health officials noted that the refinery was scheduled to restart some process units that were not involved in the February 1 fire, and confirmed that the unit affected by Wednesday’s incident was not among those slated for startup.
