A collision on the 101 Freeway on Sunday afternoon claimed the life of a motorcyclist. The incident reportedly occurred at around 2:50 p.m. in the southbound lanes just north of California Street after multiple vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction crash.
According to California Highway Patrol logs, a Volkswagen SUV slowed to a stop in the No. 1 lane due to traffic ahead, while a Tesla Model 3 and a BMW 330e were also decelerating in adjacent lanes.
A BMW 330i, failing to observe the slowing traffic, rear-ended the 330e, sending it skidding southwest into the number three lane. The 330i then veered in the opposite direction, struck a concrete center divider and collided with the Tesla.
During this sequence, a black Indian Scout motorcycle approached from behind but could not stop in time, colliding with the rear of the Tesla. The resulting impact ejected the motorcyclist, who struck the Tesla before coming to rest on the roadway.
The motorcyclist, identified as a 58-year-old man from Thousand Oaks, was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. No other serious injuries were reported from this multi-vehicle crash in Ventura.
