A catastrophic crash in the Vermont Square neighborhood on Monday night has left a young couple fighting for their lives after a wrong-way driver in a stolen vehicle struck their car, authorities reported.
The wrong-way crash in LA reportedly happened at around 11:30 p.m. on Western Avenue near 46th Street. A family of three was traveling southbound when a white vehicle, reportedly driven northbound at speeds approaching 100 mph, crossed the center divider and collided head-on with the victim’s car.
Surveillance footage from a nearby market captured the suspect’s vehicle swerving violently before striking the driver’s side and then flipping over, scattering debris along the roadway.
Investigators confirmed that the infant in the vehicle, less than one year old, died at the scene, while both parents, believed to be in their 30s, were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
The suspect, described as a man in his 40s, was ejected from the stolen vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police continue to investigate.
