Eagle Rock police are investigating a chaotic sequence of events that began with a crash on the 134 Freeway on Tuesday and led to the arrest of a suspect and an armed confrontation.
Following the crash, three individuals fled the scene, prompting police to canvas the area. Officers eventually traced one suspect to a residence in the 5300 block of Waldo Place.
In the rear yard of a neighboring home, officers observed a 51-year-old woman, identified as true crime writer Jillian Shriner, armed with a handgun.
Despite repeated commands to disarm, she reportedly pointed the weapon at police, leading to an officer-involved shooting in which she sustained a shoulder injury. Shriner, along with another woman, was later detained.
Meanwhile, one suspect — a car driver found in his underwear — was arrested around 4:20 p.m. Two additional suspects remain at large as investigators continue their search.
