
A person was hospitalized Wednesday morning after being struck by a freight train near a busy interchange in Riverside.
The incident happened shortly after 11 a.m. near the intersection of E. La Cadena Drive and Kansas Avenue, beneath the 60/91/215 Freeway connector. Fire crews responded to the scene and located a pedestrian with visible injuries beside the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks.
According to the Riverside Fire Department, the individual was stabilized at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital with moderate to serious injuries. Their identity has not been released.
Rail traffic in the area was temporarily halted to allow emergency crews safe access, with service resuming just before 1 p.m.
Authorities have not confirmed why the person was on or near the tracks. No other injuries were reported, and the circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.
