SAN DIEGO, CA – A fatal crash involving three vehicles occurred Monday afternoon in East County, leaving an 18-year-old man from Alpine dead and two others injured. The incident happened just after 4 p.m. on Dehesa Road, west of Sloane Canyon Road.
Authorities say the 18-year-old, driving a 2003 Nissan 350Z westbound, lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado. After hitting the truck, the Nissan veered off the road, striking a dirt embankment and a utility pole.
The collision caused the Silverado to careen into the path of a 2019 Mercedes C63, which then collided with the side of the truck. The Nissan driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Silverado driver was taken to Sharp Grossmont Hospital with major injuries, while the Mercedes driver had minor injuries.
The cause of the multi-vehicle crash on Dehesa Road is under investigation, and it remains unclear if alcohol or drugs were involved.
